Netflix Series to Binge: Trending Now

Two people watching Netflix in a blog about the best Netflix Shows - Fresh Student Living

We may be reaching summer but it’s pretty safe to say we probably won’t be jetting off on holiday this year. So how can you kill those long summer evenings? It’s time to take a leaf out of the introverts book – it’s Netflix marathon time!  Here are some of the most popular shows and films that are trending on Netflix right now. Perhaps it’s time to schedule in a Netflix Party session with your friends?!

1. Dear White People

This show is an extension of the award-winning 2014 film of the same name.  A comedy-drama that isn’t afraid to deal with real and very current issues centering around a group of black students in a predominantly white Ivy League University… We binged the first season in a day without even realising –and lucky for you there are now 3 seasons to watch!

2. Selling Sunset

If you prefer your TV to be a little trashy then this is perfect for you. The extravagance of these multi-million dollar homes will make your jaw drop – as will the antics of the real estate agents who sell them! If you’re one of those people who trawl Rightmove and Zoopla and like to set it from high to low or if you just like a lot of drama, this is one for you.

3. Becoming

Following on from Michelle Obama’s bestselling memoir in 2018 comes this documentary following her tour. This intimate documentary focussing on the former first lady explores her life, hopes and connection with others.

4. The Lovebirds

This film follows a couple who are on the cusp of a break up who become unintentionally involved in a bizarre murder mystery. As they get closer to clearing their names and solving the case, they need to figure out how they, and their relationship, can survive the night.

5. Never Have I Ever

From Mindy Kaling, this is a hilarious tv show following the complicated life of a first-generation Indian-American teenager dealing with first love, growing up and the grief of losing her father. Surprisingly narrated by tennis ace John McEnroe… it’ll make sense when you watch! The spark for many a recent viral video.

10. The Half of It

A very sweet coming of age story in a small American town directed and written by Alice Wu.  A shy student with a sideline in forged essay writing helps the school jock to woo the most beautiful girl in school with love letters. You might recognise the storyline, but it’s not the ending you expect!
