Moving to a new country is not easy...
You have so many different things to think about, including:
- travel documents
- language barriers
- change of culture
- missing friends and family
Some of you will be managing your own finances for the first time and that is hard, especially when it is a currency that you are not used to.
We've put together the average prices of some things in the UK that you will need or want during your time at university...
It's a well known (unfortunate) fact that the cost of living increases in bigger cities. For example, prices of restaurants and bars in London are higher than smaller Northern cities so you'll need a bit more money. Even if you aren't studying in London, it's worth making note of if you ever go to visit.
If you're not getting a part-time job whilst in the UK then you need to be sensible with your money andstick to a budget. As a university student, you are lucky enough to get student discount! Whenever you go shopping, out for a meal or even order a takeaway, have your student ID card with you. Once you have your university email address set up, you can sign up to discount sites like UNiDAYS and Student Beans too.
We strongly advise that you set up a UK bank account as soon as you can to make it a lot easier for you to manage your money. It will also mean you have no problem paying for things and getting involved in activities with your new friends.
Enjoy your time in the UK and make the most of it.
