THE games to smash over summer
Yes the weather is warm and it may be BBQ season but sometimes you just want to have a break from the sun to play a few video games, right?
It's the perfect time to invite your mates over and get competitive. You've got no uni stress and you can pretty much do what you want nowadays. You're living the dream!
Anyway, here are our picks of the best games to have a go at:
What Remains of Edith Finch
This follows the story of a girl who revisits the home of her dead family and the usual creepy and mysterious things happen that you'd expect. The game involves exploring the huge house to solve a mystery and trust us, it's exciting. It even won Best Game at the 2018 Bafta Games Awards so that's a good enough excuse in itself!
Super Mario Odyssey
Who doesn't love a Nintendo game with Mario & co? You're never too old for it. Super Mario Odyssey follows Mario on his latest adventure - saving Princess Peach from Bowser's wedding plans! It's something fun to play with a group and the whole family if you've got any gatherings planned over summer.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
This one is a little bit different but in a great way. The game is about a woman with a troubled past who has to fight past this to complete the game. Hellblade also touches on real-life social issues, especially mental health. It was made alongside psychosis experts, and it tries to immerse you into the mind of a sufferer (in a fantasy world). The game won FOUR awards at the 2018 Bafta Games Awards including Best British Game.
Fortnite: Battle Royale
You must have been under a rock the last couple of months if you've managed to miss this, but it's great. Something perfect for all ages, easy to play (slightly addictive) and fun too. It's a one-player game but can play with your mates online so grab your headphones and get playing!
Want something to look forward to? Shadow of the Tomb Raider: The End of the Beginning is coming to September 2018 and it looks amazing. The character Lara Croft has come a LONG way since her first portrayal in 1996 and that's something that makes this latest game even more exciting. If you've got 20 minutes free, give this programme all about Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider a watch.
It's really cool that video games are introducing more female lead characters and becoming informative and tackling real-life issues too rather than just being a bit of fun.
