Do you ever find yourself stressed out and anxious at university and don't know what to do? Well, don't panic.
There's a lot of talk about the effect smartphones have on your mental health, but if you experience anxiety, it can be very helpful.
To cope with anxiety, you need to distract your mind (not by Instagram!) by doing something productive that will put you at ease, especially during the exam period.
Work your way through these steps and you'll start to feel less and less uncomfortable and anxious:
Step 1. Breathe!
The most simple but most effective tip. Try not to overthink things because everything will be fine, even if it doesn't seem like it at this time. Keep this GIF handy - it mirrors a breathing technique to use next time you're feeling anxious.
Step 2. Make a note of your anxieties
Write everything down that is going round and round in your head to stop it doing so. To everyone else, it'll look like you're texting your mates so stop overthinking things. Plus, you'll feel better for getting it out.
Step 3. Put some events in your calendar
It's easy to convince yourself that an anxious feeling is neverending but you need to remind yourself of all the exciting things you've got coming up. Start with all the freedom you'll have when exams are over!
Step 4. Text your best mate, or your mum
Just anyone who helps with your anxiety because they'll understand what's going through your head. Just get everything off your chest to release some anxieties and remind you that you're not alone.
Step 5. Read
Something lighthearted on something you're interested in or even a positive fictional novel. Stay away from the news as there's enough going on in the world to make anyone anxious! Ideally, something easy to digest to put your mind at ease and give your head a bit of a reset.
Step 6. Look through your pictures
Make an album of all your favourite pictures of amazing memories or just the special people in your life. This will instantly improve your mood and distract your brain! Tagging your friends in funny memes will work more than you realise...
Step 7. Play a game
If all else fails, zone out for 10 minutes playing a game. Download a few so that you've got options if this ever happens again. Something like Candy Crush, Helix Jump or 8 Ball Pool will do the trick! Just don't get too lost in the game.
